the challenge

Follow the design process for a passion project. Spend at least 4 hours a week dedicated to the project with the aim of having a physical deliverable at the end of 8 weeks.

the scope

8 weeks, 1 designer

Where it started

Where do you start on a passion project? For me, I focussed on a recent book I had read called ‘The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: Volume 1.
This crowd-sourced book brought together a beautiful world of illustrations and stories – from across the globe. There is a whimsical feel to it through both its tender size and each page’s ability to break your heart or make you smile.

the process

Ideate ideas for my own book/zine

Visit the heart of small stories in Melbourne – Sticky Institue for further inspiration

Scrap any early ideation – I have an idea!

Research

Write & illustrate

Photocopy and bind

the outcome

Panophobia: The fear of everything is a limited edition zine (10 copies.)  The zine highlights a range of unusual phobias through felt tip illustrations. As the creator, I aimed to capture these in a beautiful light, in contrast to the despair they evoke for those with these fears.
